poned. .A sortie from Metz was repulsed with great slaughter on both sides.
Orleans was stormed after 8 hours fighting. Rouen is also to be attacked. A formidable insurrection has broken our in Algeria.
Paris is calm. The Napoleonic manifesto is disavowed.
The Prussians are preparing to-winter in France.
The North German Parliament wilt be convoked to make another war loan.

The Pope has issued a general feeble protest. Archdeacon Had field is appointed to the Bishopric of Wellington. Mr. Childer's rumoured intended retirement is contradicted. Mrs. Waters, the baby farmer, was excuted. The N.S-W. 5 per cent, loan for £57.8,000 is announced for the 18th. The wool sales commenced on the 37th probable stocks 200,000 bales.
