The Evening Star. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 1870.
The s.s. Go-Ahead, hot having returned from the Bay, will not leave for Mangapai and Wangarei till to-morrow, Saturday.
His Excellency the Governor, with Colonel Pitt, left the harbour in H.M. s.s. Blanche this morning for Wangarei.
Last night, what we helieve was a successful pasting, was effected at the foundry of Messrs. Masefield and Co., being the second new cylinder of the Eoyal Alfred. We understand■ that preparations for the work began at seven p.m.i and the casting was completed shortly after midnight. From all appearance the work appears to have been excellently performed.
No doubt the interest attaching to the initiating of public works, and the various other matters embraced in the programme of future proceedings on the parb of the Provincial Government will attract a throne to the Provincial Council Chambers this evening. It has been announced by the Provincial. Secretary (Dr. Nicholson) that he will on that occasion deliver his financial statement.
The rumors regarding an addition to the Provincial Executive have assumed definite form, and it is now rumored as authentic intelligence that Mr. Eobert Creighton has joined the Nicholson Ministry with the portfolio of Provincial Treasurer. We understand that Mr.. Creighton will take his seat on the Treasury benches this afternoon.
