ARRIVAL OF THE 'TARANAKI.'

November 14. —The annual sale of race horses and pure bred short-horned cows took place at- Tattersall's on Saturday. —Lady Bird with foal at foot, was bought by Redwood for 100 guineas. M Miner was'sold at £36; Wideawake, at £50; Thornie, £29 ; Backbiter, £95 ; Sir Tatton, _90 ; Flying Fish, £105; Swindle, £95 Several others sold at prices .ranging from £30 t» £50. Only £140 was bid for Laeenfeed, while £500 was bid for Peeress, but both were withdrawn. —Mrs. Dean's short-horned cows sold at prices ranging from £30 to £40 a head. Two shorthorned heifers, owned by Nosworthy, were knocked down for £87 ; a three months' bull calf by Barnard's. Comet, was sold for £2? * j a white yearling for £26.—Twenty-five en*"* 8 j have been received for the Derby for .18.2. including five by Redwood.—T^^ uesfcon the Lyttelton fire bogsnr at 12.30. The police have no suspicions. The verdict returned was that the fire originated in the Queen s Hotel at Lyttelton ; but how there was no reason DO Show.—Wheat, 3* to 3s-3d; oats, 2s 6d ; barley, unchanged; butter, good supply at 7±d to 72-d ;. cheese, 6id to 6id ; hams and bacon range from 7d to 7fd, assorted parcels.
