DIOCESAN SYNOD.
The Diocesan Synod met yesterday afternoon, the Bishop of Auckland pre-iding. There was a large attendance of members. The following business was transacted : —Major Heaphy brought up the report and balance fheet of the Diocesan Trust". Mr. Pearce obtained alterations in several statutes. A motiom was named, having for its object the placing of the trust property of the Church of England, in the Diocese of Auckland, more under the supervision of the Diocesan Synod. A motion was carried respecting the cemetry and railings therein ; also one that marriages should be celebrated until four o'clock p.m. A warm vote of thanks was voted to Bishop Selwyn for his great and valuable exertions in obtaining the sum of £7,284 in England for the Bishopric Endowment Fund ; and also to the Church Missionary Society for the liberal grant of 295 acres of land near .Otahuhu towards the endowment of the Bishopric of the Diocese of Auckland. An animated and lengthy discussion took place on the need of organising some effort to aid in supporting clergymen in the out-districts. The subject was left in the hands of the Bishop. A motion made that soirees and bazaars are antiscriptural, and contrary to the spirit of the Church of England, was withdrawn. Several notices of motion were withdrawn.
