LAND SOCIETIES NOS. 6 AND 7.

These was, last evening,' a meeting of the shareholders of the above two societies, for the-purpose of -winding up, and bringing things finally to a close. The meetings were held at the office of Mr. Batger, Secretary of the Societies, Queen-street. No. 7 Society met first, Mr. Charles Williamson in the chair. JShe balance-sheet and final statements were laid before the meeting, and showed that the total amount r,f receipts from the formation of the society :aad been £15,594155. 3d., and that the disbursements during that period had amounted to tho same sum, less £10 19s. 4d., which sum was ordered to remain in the hands of the trustee. Votes of thanks to the various .office-bearers concluded the proceedings.— A meeting of the shareholders of Land Society No. 6. was afterwards held at the same place, Mr. McKinstry in the chair, when the final balance-sheet was laid before the meeting. This sheeb showed that the total amount received from the formation of the society was £23,81-4 53. 6d. It may bo remembered that this society suffered considerable Josses through the absconding of Cox some two years ago. The affairs of the society afterwards got into considerable confusion, and about eighteen months ago a comvrnittee was formed, who, with the assistance of "Ip^e secretai'yjhave been successful in paying off tile whole of the liabilities of the society, and saving from the wreck the sum of £114 os. 6d. This has been appropriated for the payment of dividends of ss. for every 16s, thus showing a loss of 11s per share. Those present last e.vening were well pleasqd at the very satisfactory manner in which, matters, have been worked out by the committee and secretary, and a special rote of thanks was passed t6 them. Each shareholder then secured kis cheque, and the society was declared to be at ,an= end., We hope at an early date to se6 similar societies in exiitence. I
