Every enlightened man endorsed these views ; but Mr. Reader Wood 'opposed them. O'Neill, Esqs., ■ . zf-""'". ;> Justices.] ... ,£-•; |: DsuuKENirESS. —John McKay aid James Reid were fined ss. ; Mary Walter, for a third offence, was fined 205., and. to be imprisoned seven days ; and Michael Lynan, nofc appearing, forfeited bail. ■■'■ / .Larceny.—James Heaton, charged with stealing a coat value 203., in the absence of an owner being found, was discharged. Faise Pretences. — Henry Favari was charged with obtaining by false pretences a portmanteau and contents, value £19, from the Crown hotel, the property of James White. —Mr. MqGreggor appeared for the defence/ — The case was remanded till Tuesday. "Bail allowed, his own bond, arid another security for £50 each. Assatjit.—Martha White was charged by Amelia Williams with having assaulted her by- striking- her on the chest, and pushing her. — Mr. Bennett for the deence. — .Amelia Williams deposed : On being sent for by the little girl of defendant, and going .to. the house defendant struck ■me on the chest.— To Mr. Bennett: Gave her no provocation, Had spoken to her about her having abused a child staying with her. —Laurence Miles deposed : On the 24th inst. prosecutor sent for me, and told me about my child being illtreated. Mrs. While sent for me, and also for prosecutor, who repeated the statement. Mrs. White ordered her to go out; but she repeated the charges, and would not go, and Mrs. White shoved her out. There was no blow struck. —Case dismissed, with costs.
