AUCKLAND RACES

A number of persons interested in horse racing met at Campion's City Club Hotel, on Saturday evening last —Mr.. Peyton in the chair—with a view to determine whether ther should be any races for tho New Year. After some discussion it was resolved to adjourn the meeting for a week, at the same time and place. In the meantime the gentlemen present pledged themselves to canvass the town to see what amount of subscriptions would be forthcoming. We trust that the New Year will not be allowed to pass wi.hout Ihe annual races taking place, such an omission would be a discredit to the sporting community of Auckland. A largo meeting is expected next Saturday. .
