A GERMAN VESSEL TAKES REFUGE IN THE MANUKAU.
The outer waves of the Franco-Prussian war are surging in this direction. Yesterday, a German schooner, hailing from Hamburg, and named the Sawai, commanded by Captain Schmidt, put into the Manukau for protection, ;in consequence of the breaking oul of the war in Europe, and the presence of French cruisers in the Pacific. The schooner cleared out from Apia, Navigator's Islands, on the 31st August, in ballast. Captain Schmidt chose the ManuJcau. in preference to this port, fearing that a Frenchman might be cruising outside the Hauraki Gulf.
