TARANAKI.
Nelson, October 5. —By tbe Airedale we have late dates from Tdranaki, bin the news is limited—As Titokowarit passed through Opunake, on liis way inland, his followers robbed t!ie flax milis of a number of small ariieles. Tuey also stole GO sheep, the property of the friendly natives, and refused to return them. The friendlks went in pursuit^ but were driven ba..-k by an armed free of rebels. The friendlies were very angry, and held a meeting at which it was said that, the case was one for fighting. The Europeans interfered to prevent their following to fight Tito. The latter, however, ultimately left the sheep, except ten which had been eaten, being afraid of the friendlies fighting him. —Flax mills in various parts of ihe province are wurking. —A smart shock of earthquake was felt in faranaki at 2.20 p in. on Monday, it lasted about 15 seconds. Goods were knocked off shelves by it, and some chimneys were moved.
