POLICE COURT.—Wednesday.
(Before Gh S. Graham and J. Newman, Esqrs., Justices.) DBtJHKEKNESS.
J. Cosbley, D. Brown, and J. Eoberts were each fined five shiliings and costs, or to be imprisoned for twenty-four hours, with hard labour. J. Tindell forfeited bail. GOAT CASES. J. Brown and J. Ritchie were each fined five shillings tod costs for allowing goats to wander in the public streets. ASSAUXT. Thomas Macky . was charged by James C. Brown with having attempted to throw down a ladder on which prosecutor was standing. Mr. Wynn for tho prosecution. Mr. Joy for the defence. J. C. Brown deposed : I reside in and keep a hotel in Hob son-street. On Sunday evening last, between five and six o'clock, I was lighting the lamp over my door, being on the top of the ladder, fourteen feet from the ground. Defendant several times rushed at the ladder, and knocked it from the perpendicular. I held by the lamp-iron, and prevented the ladder from falling. I had on former occasions refused to give him drink.
To Mr. Joy : I held on to the ladder and lamp, and he could not throw it down. Witness was cross-examined at some length by Mr. Joy, who addressed the Bench to show the trivial nature of the offence.
Fined five shillings and costs.
