WANGANUI.
Stranded. —We learn from the driver of Cobb's coach, that tho ketch Alarm, trading between Wellington and the Kangitikei river, was driven ashore near the river, on Monday night, during the gale which was blowing then along the coast. The cargo fortunately has all been saved, but we believe that the ketch has broken her back. Some hopes are entertained of her being gofc off, but during this stormy weather nothing can be done. We have not ascertained whether she is insured.—Chronicle, August 11.
Accident.—On Saturday morning last as three young men, named Wale and Ward were proceeding along the road from Taurakina to Bulls', the cart in which they were fell over a culvert, then submerged near the Tutnenui stream, into nine feet of water. The horse (Craven, a well known entire) cart and contents immediately disappeared beneath th c flood. The young men were carried some distance down with the current, and succeeded in catching hold of a cabbage tree from which position they were some time afterwards rescued by the aid of ropes.— lbid.
