The Evening Star. TUESDAY, AUGUST 2, 1870.

By the arrival'of the Bella Mary from FTobart Town, this morning, the cause of acclimatisationis advanced by the valuable addition of brown trout ova, bronzewinged pigeons, brown quail, and a number of rosella parrots.

City Hale. — The Carandini concert last night, originally intended as a benefit to the Mechanics'lnstitute, and generously handed over by the committee to the relief of the widows and orphans bereaved by the loss of the Tauranga, was in the highest degree creditable to the people of Auckland. The house was crammed beyond the bounds of comfort, aod the concert was eminently satisfactory. We believe a very substantial sum will be added by it to the funds of the Belief Committee.

'I o-night Mrs. Walter Hill takes her benefit at the Prince of Wales Theatre, when we hope to see a bumper honse. Mr. Walter Hill will appear for this night only, and Mr. Connor Roach is to recite an Irish comic story, entitled " The Rival Poets."

There was an excellent attendance aty the Theatre Royal last evening, when the " Old ( hateau" was j reduced, Miss Gougenhiem and Mrs. Harry Jackson sustaining the principal characters very successfully. "Whitebait at Greenwich" concluded the pvening's amusement. TH". nvnthly parade of the Auckland Nhvhl and .aval rtillery Volunteers is postponed until I riday next. A meeting >'f the members of the Auckland Band of Hope Drum and Fife Band will take place on Thursday evening next.
