The poll began nt 9 a.m. on Saturday Mr. Cochrnnelcing-Deputy-Beturriing Officer. The voting was carried on pretty fairly until aVout one o'clocV, when a row took place, and Mr. Mackay was assaulted, and struck a raan a very heavy blow with- a loaded whip. Ote man was kicked, and said his ribs were broken ; and others had broken noses and faces. The door was well kept, and a number of Tookey's men prevented from going in. The poll closed at four o'clock, and the numbers were:— Cadman ... ~ ... ~, 148 Tookey ... '' ./. ' ... 139 Majority for Cadman ... 9 Mi. Cadman then addressed the electors and congratulated them on their victory.
