[Br Electbio Telegraph.]

WELLINGTON, Wednesday, 4.45 p.m. The debato on the. Financial proposals -was continued by Mr. Oswold Curtis, tno Superintendent of Nelson, who generally expressed approval of the principles of the Government proposals, but said that borrowing should be limited to one million. for the present year. .Railways should be constructed by offering a guarantee and grants of. land to contractors, while he thought the Government 'bills should, be materially modified. \

Tareha and Mete Kiugi made speeches on thing* in general, but expressed no opinion about the financial statement.

Air. Baari'f strongly opposed the Govern ment scheme.

Mes3i'3. Kerr, Williamson, Dignan, Taylor, and M'Farlaue,.generally supported the Goyernment proposals. y' Mr. Vogel replies to-night. The Ngatiporous have left for Napier today. One of them diei suddenly while going in a cab to the steamer.

A public meeting has been held at Napier to consider the financial poliuy of the Government, at which resolutions were passed-con-, dernning the proposals as extravagant. Present resolution will probably be carried without division. Even those who oppose, stated that they will vote for it. Then will come the bills to carry it into effect. If the Government is prepared to modify on some points, they will pass j if not, the matter "will have to ba referred to the hustings on question of amount and administration ; but the House is ready to vote as much of the scheme and the money as may enable the Government to begin immigration and works. There is a growing feeling to refuse imperial guarantee as a sop to Cerberus. ,%/■ ,;^'-
