A circumstance, that may have very disastrous consequences is reported in this morning'H papers. The barque Cantii-o, abandoned off" Hokianga, is at present on her tray to this port in charge of the pilot of that place, who has, apparently reckless of consequences, abandoned his post. We do uot know if these little incidents are winked at by the authorities ; but should a vessel in distress essay to cross the Hokianga bar in the absence of the pilot, and get wrecked, who should stand the charge of manslaughter? And if this allowed at Hokianga, why not at the Manukau and the Waitemala? Pretty state of things, it must be owned, 'but we presume nobody cares.

Last night the Theatre lloyal was well filled in all parts. Miss Grbugheneim appearing as Aurora Floyd in the drama of that name. The whole piece passed off most successfully, Miss G-ougenheim playing in her usual furnished manner. Mr. Hydes as the "hupper" servant, was very good, and all the other parts were well sustained. The capital farce ofthe " Rough Diamond" brought the evening's amusement to a close. To-night a great Hbill is announced, viz., the " Serf," and tlie burlesque of the "Honeymoon." This burlesque was written by the late James Mulholland, the originator of the first evening paper in New Zealand, and we believe it is a most glorious one. Miss Go'ugenheinvand Mr. J. P. Hydes sustain the principal characters, which will in itself be sufficient to draw a crowded house, f i t The Cfli'andini Concerts still seem to be sufficiently attractive to draw large houses. Last night the City Hall beiug again well filled in all parts. Wo notice that on Monday, Madame and Mr. Winter will assist this talented family, and on Wednesday Madame Carandini will take her benefit. , . ~

The annual general meeting of the members of tho Auckland battalion Eifle Volunteers will be held in the drill-shed, on Monday evening, at half-past 7 o'clock, when every member is requested to be present. The cpramittoo are requested .to. meet at 7 o'clock.
