ASSAULTING THE rOLICE
:W; C. Hereford was charged by Constable Clarke with having assaulted him when in the execution of his duty.
Constable Andrew Clarke deposed : I was on duty this morning in Queen-street, when I was sent for to a house in Chapel-street. On going there found prisoner lying on a sofa, and was requested to remove him for having broken into the house. I asked him to leaTo the house. While 7. was speaking to the owner of the house, he went on tho sofa ngain. I was assisting him on with his clothes when he sprang rounl and struck me with his clenched fiat in the face, and sent my cap flying. I then handcuffed him. He was a stranger to the people of the house. Ho seemed as if in tho horrors. Imprisoned for one month with hard labour. : ;: t\ \ ) Li. I ./-■• -A-
DESBETJEB,
George Weston, remanded from Tauranga to Auckland on a charge of being a deserter from H.M.S. Rosario, pleading guilty, was, on the application of Sergeant Morrison, further remanded for a week.
The Court then rose.
