MUNICIPAL POLICE ACT. J^S :: T. Walker was charged with riding on the" footpath of Ponsonby Road. .
Mr. Joy for the prosecution. - Michael Burke deposed that on the 12th iiist. he saw defendant riding along on the footpath.
Constable Green deposed that the Ponsonby Road is within the municipal boundaries, and that the road is passable for horseß. Fined 203 and costs, or to be imprisoned one month ; solicitor's costs also allowed.
M. O'Connell, for the allowing the wandering?, in a public place, of two goats, was fined ss. and costs. P. Murphy, for two goats, J~. Lou'ss, for one goat, and W. Conway, for one goat, were fined in the same amounts. Elizabeth Ryan, for allowing a cow to wander, being a repeated offcnoe, was fined 10s., or to be imprisoned seven days. P. Carroll, for allowing a spring cart to remain iv Highstreet, was fined Kb. and costs, or to be imprisoned seven days. A charge against W. L. Rodgers, of allowing two horses to wander, was, on the. promise of Mr. Rees appearing for him, withdrawn, '!!**? f^iJ. Rice was charged with driving drays across the foothpath in Q-rey-stneet. Mr. Wynn, for the pi-osecution, applied for an exemplary penalty. Ordered to pay £3, or to be imprisoned seven daya. TnAUDUXEXT CONVERSION. The charge against R. Baird, of fraudu lently converting £10 entrusted to him for purchasing slmrcs, was udjourned till Saturday. Mr. "Wynn for the prosecution; Mr. Hesketh for tho defence. MINING COMPANY'S mil ED XIABIIITIES ACTS. A aeries of charges for non-payment of mining calls wa3 laid by Mr. Otway, Official Agent, for whom Mr. Rees appeared. Ia that against Mr. R. lusk, Mr. Rees stated that the claim hud been settled, Mr. Lusknover having been asked for the amount before being served with the summons. The claim against Mr. Abbot, for £2 11s lOd, calls, had also been settled out of Court, there being but a dispute regarding cosfs; half of solicitors' costs and costs of one witness were allowed. Claim agaiust Mi #. E. Perkins, for £8, calls in -the Austvalnisian Gold Mining Company, now being wouud-up by order ; Mr. Wynn appeared for the defence, and showed by the evidence of defendant that material witnesses and his solicitor were absent, owing to having been summoned to in this same case on the same day, the case being subsequently withdrawn from Shortland. Adjourned till Tuesday. Claim against Mr. C. Bonnington for calls in the South Enterprise G-.M. Co., now in process of winding-iip. -Amount, £L 5., ■ TM>. Hcaketh. for the defence. - m Mr. Otway gave eudence as to defendant having attended a meeting of shareholders as a member, and to being liablo for this amount as tbe quota necessary for him to pay iv tho expenses of winding-up the company. (Mr. Bonnington was examined by Mr. Rees, in the endeavour to show that he was a shareholder. It appeared that it wa3 not with his consent that his name had been placed on tho roll of shareholders, and of director?, and that calls had been, paid by Mr. Lyell in hi 3 namo and charged to defendant: that the directors had never met. .
