LOSS OF THE EURYALE ON STARBUCK ISLAND.

[Translated from the Messager de Tahiti.']

On Monday morning, the 18th April, we were informed of the sad loss of the tr msport Euryale, for the last 6 years attached to this station. At 6 o'clock this morning (the 23rd April), we were informed that the Mins, Swedish barque, arrived, bringing the crew and stores of the vessel. The Euryale struck during the night of the 4th March on Starbuck Island, which is badly laid down on the charts, about 800 miles from Tahiti, 7 days after her departure hence to San Francisco. It was found impossible to get the vessell off the reef, and all hands were employed landing live stock and provisions on the island. The longboat, which had been washed upon the reef, was repaired as well as possible for a long voyage. In this boat Lieutenant Bouffe, the second mate, and two men commenced a voyage to Tahiti. It was their intention to make, if not that island, some other in the Archipelago, and make known the situation of their companions. After 0 ■ Itvs' saiHng, they found themselves 100 leagues north of Borabora, and there war* picked up by the Mina, bound for Maiden. The captain, at the request of M. Bouffe, altered his course for Starbuck, and arrived there on the 7th of April, embarked everything, and made the trip to Tahiti iis;lo> days. We cannot too much thank CaptainV'^Paberg, of the Mina, for the generosity of his conduct and courtesy to the refugees,. after their 35 days' exposure. The position of the Starbuck, on which three English ships and one American ship have been lost, has been laid down by the officers of the Euryale. The western point is lat. s°. 37' S., long. 157° 16' W. of Paris. The island is six miles from east to west. The mails wore saved, and will be forwarded to San Francisco by the Chevert.
