PUBLIC MEETING AT PARNELL.
A labge and influential meeting was held in the Public Hall, Parnell, last night; Header G. Wood, Ksq., M.H.K., in the chair, when the following motions were passed : —
" Mr. George Frazer moved, ' That in the opinion of tlii3 meeting, it is advisable that the third section of the Auckland Harbour J rust Act should be amended as follows:—lnstead of 'four persons to be elected annually by the persons liable to pay, and who during the preceding year shall have paid £10, or upwards, of port, harbour, pilotage, or wharfage dues or charges,' there shall be substituted, 'One person shall be elected annually by the electors of JNewton, one pei'son by the electors of City .East and City West, one person by those who, during the preceding year shall have paid £10, &c". This resolution being seconded by Colonel Nation, was carried unanimously.
" Jn the opinion of this meeting, it is advisable that the gentlemen who are appointed as a deputation (o wait on his Honor in reference to the construction of the road from Parnell to the city, by way of the beach, should be now appointed a standing committee to watch over the interests of Parnell in the matter of the construction of said road "
It was also resolved that a petition should be placed in the hands of members of the district for presentation at the General -Assembly, praying that the surburbs of Parnell sbould not be included within the municipal boundaries of the City of Auckland.
