AMERICAN JOURNALISM.

We have had forwarded to our office a late newspaper published at Boston, America. It would be a source of gratification to us if we could publish the whole issue as a remarkable sample of American journalism ; but as we could not do this without filling between sixty or seventy of our ordinary columns, we content ourselves with the following curious extracts :— Under the head of the "Week's Passing Events" in the Pilot we learn as follows : — " Murders continue active. Suicide flourishes, and some great cases are quoted. Robbery is lively, and pays. Minor crimes are numerous. Fires are abundant, and very destructive. Thus the year opens, how it will close you have only to live to see." " The old sinner, Garibaldi, has written a letter in which he denounces in very strong terms the closing by the authorities of the Anti' Council in Naples. Later accounts state that he is dangerously ill. "The attempt to relieve poor people, by removing the duties on imported coal, has signally failed in Congress. There was no money in it. "The woman's paper, the Revolution, having invited the public to send it brief statements of the doings of woman, the Netomark Courier responds by saying that a woman of that city has successfully " done" her husband out of §1800, and eloped wjth another fellow ; and that further particulars can be furnished if desired." Under the head of " Advice Gratis" we learn that " one great curse of the present day is, the failure of the common people to appreciate small things. They feel that if they cannot save large sums, they will not save any tiling. They do not realise how a daily addition, be it ever so small, will soon make a large pile."— Westport Evening Star.
