POLICE COURT.—This Day.
(Before R- F. Porter, Eeq, Thos. Ritchie, Esq., and J. Newman, J£sq., J.P.s.) DRUNKENNESS. Owen Hughes aud J. Lloyd, charged with this offence, were each fined 5s and costs, ov to be imprisoned for 24 hours, with hard labor. DBITNK AND DISOHDEBLY; Ellis Jones was charged with having been drunk and disorderly, and with assaulting the police. ■. Andrew Clarke deposed : I am a constable in the Armed Constabulary. .Was on duty ,on the 18th May in Queen-street; and arrested prisoner. He was drunk; and; creating disturbance. Used no undue violence in arresting him.' Prisoner struck me with his head like a ram. He had been fighting with people passing. Sentenced to pay a fine of 40s and costs, or to be imprisoned for seven days. INSULTING LANGUAGE. David Atkinson was charged by Henry Harris .with having used insulting language towards him, by calling him a "loafer," and stating that he lived by prostitution. Mr. Wynn for prosecution, Mr. Joy for the defence. It appeared that the summons had been served at the residence .of defendant in his absence at the Whau, and on his return he had this morning given himself up to the police. On the application of the counsel for the prosecution, the case was adjourned till Saturday. The Court then rose.
