ARRIVAL OF THE LORD ASHLEY.
The Circular Saw Company's s.s. Lord Ashley, E. Wheeler, Esq., Commander, arrived in harbour this morning. She left Port Chalmers on 3rd at 2.15 pm. ; had fresh south-west winds from thenoa to Lyttelton ; anchored there at 8.20 a.m. of 4th ; proceeded same day at 3.50 p.m. ; arrived alongside Wellington wharf at 9.15 a.m. of sth ; sailed from thence on 6th at 3.30 p.m.; passed Cape Turanganui on 7th at 8.15 a.m. ; fresh north east wind. Off Ban Island 2.30 p.m. ; blowing hard with high head sea. At 6.30 p.m. sighted the Kidnappi ra ; heavy sea running; stood off and on all night. At daylight weather more moderate. 9.30 Sunday morning anchored at Napier ; landed passengers and mails ; sea running too high for the lighter to come out; at noon the Comerang, with biu<. p for Auckland, put back. Monday morning the lighter came alongside ; discharged all the Napier cargo and sailed at 12.10 p.m. ; light north-west winds with very heavy head sea ; at 9 p.m. of 10th passed the East Cape ; heavy beam sea ; passed Whito Island at 4 30. p.m. ; light south-west winds and fine weather.
Passengees :—Saloon : Messrs. Hall, Fairweather, Lieutenant Morrow, Messrs. Maddison, Boardman, Hazard, Kirby, Small, Allen, Bennett, Neal, and 6 in the steerage.
