ANOTHER SUDDEN DEATH.

On__ a ■ day or two ago we had occasion to remark upon the large number of sudden deaths which have taken place in this city of late. Those remarks were made upon the occasion of death from apoplexy, of a man named Mitchell. We are now again called upon —within three or four days —to chronicle a death equally sudden, and under equally painful circumstances, which took place about 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon, on board the p.s. Samson shortly before that vessel star! Ed upon her first trip to the Bay of Islands. The deceased, James GTan-ell, a blacksmith by trade, came up from the Kawakawa coaljinines, in which h*e had been for some time previously employed, about a month ago, for the purpose of joining his wife and family in Auckland and also to obtain medical advice, as he was suffering from illness. While in Auckland he was attended by Dr. Lee, and he had recovered sufficiently to be able to return to his work at the Kawakawa coal mines by the p.s. Samson, which was to leave the Queen-street wharf at half-past four o'clock yesterday afternoon. Shortly after his arrival on board, and before the vessel had left the wharf, he was obsen ed to be Beized with a sudden fit of illness and before assistance could be procured, he staggered back and expired. Medical assistance was called in, but it was, of course, of no avail. Dr. Lee, who was soon in attendance, and stated that the cause of death was from chronic disease of the heart, and gave a certificate to that effect. The unfortunate manwife was at once communicated with, aud her grief on finding that her husband was dead may be easily imagined. The body was removed to her residence within a very short time of the death taking place. The deceased leaves a wife and four children. There will be no inquest upon the remains.
