April 26, 10 a.m. MORE BAD NEWS FROM MAITLAND. —SEVERAL HOUSES WASHED AWAY.
By electric telegraph I have just learnt that the river at Maitland rose nearly two feet during the night, and is now 'thirteen inches above the highest level it everikttained in 1857 or 1867. The water has f broken over at the Falls and several other places. At the Falls, a part of the Court-house, and a private house occupied by a person named Whey, have been swept away, and great fears are entertained for the safety of the Northumberland Hotel? the small bridge in front of which has given way to the force of the current, which is rushing past this spot with terrific Telocity.
