MINING NEWS.
The Long Drive.—Last week the Long Drive Company crushed a lot of stuff at the Thames Crushing Company's machine, but the amalgam obtained I as not yet been retorted, there were altogether 60 tons of general crushing stuff put through, and out of this at the cleaning up 250 ozs. of hard amalgam were obtained. The amalgam is rich, and is calculated to yield, at least, one-third gold. The crushing at the Kuranui battery continues to show up well, and we have no doubt but there will be a good yield when the retorting takes place on Saturday next. The Deep Lead.—On Saturday a cleaning up took placo at the Deep Lead Company's battery, and the result obtained gave an average little over half an ounce to the ton in the quantity put through. The stuff going through this morning is showing up much better, and we have no doubt but that an increased yield will be the result of the next retorting. The reef is improving downwards. TnK Flying Cloud. —The crushing of stone at Souter's battery for the I'lying Cloud Gold Mining Company has just been completed, and the result is 112 ounces retorted gold from 20 tons stone.
The Inverness —The Inverness Comuany took out a splendid lot of specimen stone from their old low level working on Saturday, weighing about 301bs. One of tlie pieces was about as rich a specimen as wo have seen from any claim on the field—being of a large size, and nearly one-half gold throughout. The fact that stone of this rich character is taken from the old working speaks volumes for the future prosperity of the conqiany, which has already paid very handsome dividends to the shareholders.
