The steamers Lalla Booth, Enterpise Nos. 1 aud 2, and Jane, were rapidly at work all the day with crowded decks, conveying the citizens of Auckland in thousands to enjoy the breezes of the North Shore. The throngs that had gone to sea en route to Kawau seemed in no way to have lessened the crowd that affected nearer promenades ; and through the outskirts of Devonport, on the beach looking toward Auckland, and that looking to the ocean, around the base and up to the summits of the North Head and the Flagstaff Hill, all the North Shore seemed converted into one vast fete champetre.
