AUCKLAND GARRICK CLUB.
The purpose for which this new dramatic club give its first performance is one that appeals to our common feelings of humanity, and we feel confident that sympathy with the sufferer will crowd the Prince of Wales Theatre to-night. Nothing is found to contribute more to convalescence than engaging the mind with cheerful reading. The Provincial- Hospital has already a small library, but the books, no doubt selected with the purest intentions, are not of the class which the general patient will read.
The purpose in to-night's performance1 is to raise a fund to supplement the Hospital library, aud it xfUl require no pleading in placing the cause before the people of Auckland. Ihe pieces to be presented, good in themselves, have been jfcfie subjects of many rehearsals. The atnateowhave done their part well in preparation, and we have no doubt will show it in performance. It now devolves on the people of Auckland to show by the?* presence this evening their appreciation of generous intention and their sympathy with the suffering among their fellow-men. m
