LITTLE AKAROA ENTERTAINMENT.
To the Editor. \ Sir. -Will you kifadiy alow me space in you columns to reply to a letter which appears in your issueof the 15th instant Little Akaloa entertainment, and signa|H J. B. Barker, in which lie (Mr Barker) how it has taken nearly three hatch and why di i the champion not this before Mr Cox left the Bay. To W I reply, I have hatched nothing ; I lIH simply stated, and shall only state, fActe which I defy Mr Barker to contradict. Now Sir. the report of the entertainment appeared in the Mail on the 9th Nov. I contradicted that report on the 2nd Dec, ' which was only three weeks after, not three months as stated by Mr Barker, and then Mr Cox was in the Biy, and is so at"* the present time. He (.Mr Barker) statea I endeavor to point out, that the entertainment was got up for a different purpose, &c, that it was firet. mooted by Mrsw Barker, and that Mrs Barker and her family got it up for the purpoee which appeared in the report. To which I reply that it was first spoken of by Mrs A. Mclntosh, and that Mrs Barker took the matter in hand and Mr E. Turner as manager, &c. Now, Kir, ifihe report is true, how can Mrs Barker re«- . cile herself to the fact of there less than seven different persons (two letter from Mrs Barker and one by leeiby Mr E. Turner) who were asked to taJro part in the entertainment for the purpose as staled by me? Mr Barker need not trouble himself in apologising, as he (Mr Barker) had the Inspector's report in possession until Feb. last, and is as acquainted with their contents as I Mr Barker says I have published the epector'e report for no other purpoee to damage Mr Cox'e reputation, and prive him of his bread and cheese. which I give a flat denial. If the which have appeared in my letter have damaged Mr Cox's reputation, the blame lays with Mr Barker and Mr Cos—Mr Barker for having stated the entertaj|rraent was got up for a different than what the public was led to beliem and Mr Cox for having reported it knoM ing at tho same time it was not truff And if Mr Cox is deprived of his bread and cheese, he can only blame himself for that, as the Inspector's report shows. Mr Barker denies having mentioned the School Committee. I say most emphatically ho did ; and further, he stated if the Bay was canvassed there would be a large majority of the parents in favor of Mr Cox's staying. I think, Mr Editor, I have stated enough to show tho public where the cap | fits, and where the local jealousy comgjJ in. In conclusion, I beg to state, as-flfl Barker's letter is teeming over with from beginning to end, I decline to any further correspondence on the mattJ|W( Thanking you for the apace you have allowed me in tho Mail.
