MR lIENNING'S CHALLENGE. To the Editor. Sm, —I notice in your issue of Tuesday last a challenge from Mr Henning to run die boat Pinafore against the Dream, toliioirow. After conferring with my crew, we are of opinion that it will be better to let the matter rest til * after the Lyttelton Regatta. If Mr Henning is not satisfied then, I shall be guile willing to gratify him with another spin, especially if he will agree to the condition that there shall be a sjood sailing breeze. The two boats have really never met and sailed together yet. Last year, at the Red House buoy, they were not 20 yards apart, but the Dream standing too far in shore was becalmed, whilst the Pinafore got a long lead. Again, this year the race was mereiy won by the Pinafore keeping in shore at the start, the two boats which did this, the Pinafore and Avalanche, getting a long lead round the Red House tHioy. I repeat, the two boats have hardly ever sailed side by side, and whenever they have done so, the Dream has gone ahead. Still, in light winds, I believe Mr Henning's boat to be a shade the best, but should very much like to try them with a really good breeze. If this will suit Mr Henning, I shall be quite ready to meet him after the Lyttelton Regatta....Yours, etc., W. B. TOSS WILL.
