AKAROA REGATTA COMMITTEE.
A meeting of this committee was hold on Tuesday evening. Present—The Commodore and Messrs Hargreaves, Henning, Black, H. Aylmer, and J-icobson. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting wero read and confirmed. COniIESrONDENCE. Tlie following letters wore rei<l : — From tlio Hon. Sec. Akaroa Rowing Club— "December 11, 1882. li Gjntlemnn,—Would it b» possible to niter tl.'j time of starting of No. 4. The Don? lv Sculling Race, to that of No. 2, The Junior Double Sculls. The reason for asking this favor is, that our crew liavo to H-iil in No. 3 sailing race, and consequently would not be back in time io compete in the-. Double Senile, which race is thu only one our club has been able to entvr for.—Yours, etc., "0. S. Watkiss." ~Slr Stuart was also in attendance in support of the request. It. was u,sree<! that the alteration as aaked I'or hlmiihl be granted, viz., that the Double: fkuliing Race should be the second on the programme, and the Junior Sculling Race fourth.
From Mr M. Thomas of Puraii. saying Union S.S. Co, had debarred him from competing, as they wanted to charge him £2 for carriage of his boat, as well as full faro for crew. The Hon. Sec. explained he had seen Mr Helming on the matter, who had been in correspondence with Mr Puflett to endeavor to arrange matters.
From Hon. Sec. Lyttelton Regattft, say 4 ing yachts were not debarred from competing, but there was no time allowance below ten tons.
From Mr Puflett, stating that he had arranged for Pooley's Brass Band, of 18 performers, to come down, and that the Htiwea would be dispatched from Lyttelton wharf on Saturday, as soon after eight as practicable.
The Commodore urged the necessity that existed fnr getting away the Yacht Race in good time, and it was arranged that it should be dispatched immediately the steamer anived, if she got in by 12.15 p.m., but that if she was detained till later, the yachts should be started without waiting for her.
The Hon. Sec. said that he had agreed to pay £4 for the use of the band ashore, the U.S.S. Co. paying a similar sum. His action waa approved.
Mrl. W.Maude wrote, regretting his inability to act as starter, owing to business arrangements.
From Mr McGregor, enclosing cheque for sale of sites, subscription, etc.
The committee expressed their sense of the very handsome way in which they had been treated by Mr McGregor.. COMMITTEE REPORTS. The sub-committee appointed reported that they had accepted Mr C. Brown's tender for refreshments for committee ship at £7 15s, that being the lowest of the three tenders received. The Buoy Sub-Commit-tee reported that they had laid down buoys for sailing race. etc. CHRISTCHURCH SUPPORT. Mr H. Aylmer reported that he had been able to callect a fair sum in Christchurch, and that he had also been given two silver cups by Messrs Coates and Co. and Lizard, and a silver medal by Mr G. T. White.
It was resolved to give the silver medal to the helmsman of the winning yacht, to add the cups to the first prizes in the Sailing Race No 3 on programme, and the Canoe Race. The meeting then adjourned till Thursday, Dec. 14, at 8 p.m., at the Mail office.
A meeting was held last night, at which the Commodore and Messrs Black, Har • groaves, and Jacobson were present. The entries were received, and when they closed the numbers stood as follows:— Yacht Race, three entries; Senior Double Sculls, six entries; Open Boat Sailing, four entries ; Jun. Double Sculls, three entries ; Pair-oar Dingy, for youths, three entries; Canoe Race, two entries; S tiling Race for boats 20ft keel and under, four entries; Pair-oar Race, four entries. It was agreed to take post entries for the Dingy Sculling Race with single sculls, and the Hon. Sec. wad instructed to use liis discretion with regard to allowing any subsequent entries in other races. The meeting then adjourned till Saturday morning, at 10 a.m., at the Mail office.
