was a fair entry of castle of all descriptions, dairy »-ows nivl lieifers in calf and springing to calf being much in demand, and commandng from £5 to £6 each, according t> age nnd forwardness. Store cattle were in fair demand at from 32s 7d to 40s. for yearlings. £2 15s to £3 for two year olds, nnd £2 16s to £3 for dairy cows. Bulls were in good demand, in advance of usual prices, and a better enquiry Reemed to exijt for hacks, a few of which were placed at over recent quotations.
Messrs 11. Matson nnd Co. report on the Live Stock Market. &c, for the week ending Thursday, November 2nd, 1882, as !:'ol lows:—Cn "account of there being no maiket at Addinglon during the forthcoming ram and show week, a supply of all classes of stock cams to hand for yeslerdny's sale. In sheep there was an I , specially full entry, the yards hems; crammed, chiefly with butchers' lines ef good quality, shorn mutton being well represented. There was a large attendance of the trade, but through there being such a large choice, the sale opened somewhat dull though biddings improved as the auction progressed, and most of the lines were cleared. For both crossbreds and merinos, in the wool, we noticed a decline in values of fully Is per head under last week's rates, this being especially noticeable in some of the best lots. The Longbeach crossbreds brought from 17s 6d to 20h ; Messrs Gould and Cameron's crossbred wethers to j 8s : merinos, account the seme owners, from 12s to 16s Gd, the latter price being paid for a splendid draft of sheep. Shorn mutton was ovidently more in request than that in the wool, and sold better than at any previous market. Prime crossbreds brought Us to 12a 9d ; ligbi weights, 9d to 10s ; merino wetbers, 7a to 8a 3;l, the named price being paid for a consignment sent to Irind by C. Hurst. We quote mutton, in the fleece, at 2;} d per lb ; shorn, l£d to 2d. Taking the sale throughout, we look upon the d>iy's transactions as being generally satisfactory. Store sheep are perhaps not worth quite as inui-h money as they were a month since, but there are still plenty of buyers in the market for good lines, at slightly reduced rates. To account for this slight falling off. in the demand we must look to the somewhat backward season and scarcity of feed, which is affecting the price of store stock of all classes. Fat lambs represented a very large entry, every line bring cleared at high prices ; 8s to 9s 6d were the ruling rates, but as high as 11s to 12s was in some instances paid for choi'-e lots. In beef there was rather above an average quantity penned, but business was Hugging,, and a good few cattle were turned out unsold. We quote 24s to 29s per 1001b as tli; rate for good quality, with a cerain amount o£ fluctuation for inferior or extra prime lots. The trade in store cattle is at a comparitive standstill, and it is next to impossible to quit any of the younger ages except at absurdly low values. There was an especially larye entry penned yesterday, but the bulk were turned out unsold. The totals yarded for the day comprised 8-160 s-beep, 718 head of cattle, and—pigs.
