AJirtiOit Exhibition AKAROA HORTICUTURAL, INDUSTRIAL, A D PASTORAL EXHIBITION, TO BB HELD IN THE ODDFELLOWS , HALT, AKAROA, On JANUARY Ist and 2nd, ISS3. npHl£ Committee desire to call the JL attention of the public to the fact that the forthcoming Exhibition will be carried out in a much more comprehensive manner than its predecessors. In the HORTICULTURAL division the awards have been divided into two classes, an open and amateur class, so thatitlie residents will not have to compete against gardeners or the Chinese. The prizes offered in this division will be ;in awards) over £25. The INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION is also exciting greater interest this year. The Schoolmasters' Association "■ have offered five special prizes, and strong efforts are being made in the schools to carry off the palm. The objects of art will also be seen to a much greater advantage in the Oddfellows' Hall. The AGRICULTURAL and PASTORAL division is under the auspices of the Farmers' Club, who offer a handsome and varied list of prizes for produce, implements, etc. The attention of farmers is specially called to the endeavors to encourage the manufacture of implements suitable for working our hilly country. The Society has issued two classes of tickets for purchase, to which they wish specially to call the attention of the public. The first costs 10s, and gives the holder a right to free entrance to the Exhibition during the two days, and also to the exemption from entry fees, except for special prizes. A further privilege will be free admittance to a PROMENADE CONCERT with which the Exhibition will close, en the evening of January 2nd. The other tickets are 5s each, and are intended for those who desire to encourage the Sockty by a. small donation, The following Special Prizes have been offered, and (more are invited :— £3 3s for the best treatise on stock for dairy purposes, and how to produce them, taking rearing, feeding, breeding, and causes (if any) through climatic influences, etc., between New Zealand and Great Britain, the treatise to be the property of the Farmers' Club ; offered by Mr Henry Piper. 15s for the winner of the greatest number of prizes in the Agricultural and Pastoral exhibits; given by Mr W. Barnett. 9s for best cheese exhibited in the show; given by Mr W. Barnett. 10s 6d for the best curd shovel ; offered by Mr George Checkley. 10s 6d for the best 12 mulberry leaves (Morns alba); offered by Mr H. C. Jacobson. 10s for the best collection of peas, named varieties • given by Mr Hawthorne. 7s 6d for the best box of flowers for window-silt; given by Mr E. Lee. 10s for the win nor of the gieateat number of prizes in the vegetable classes ; given by Mr It. Newton. For the best kept oxeivisc books in Standards 2, 3, 4, 5. and 6, to children attending the Government schools of the Peninsula. The work to extend over a period of not less that three months, and to be certified to by teacher. The conditions and the amounts of the prizes to be settled at the next monthl} , meeting or the Association. Given by the Banks Peninsula Teachers' Association. The schedules, with a full list of the prizes offered, can be obtained of any member of Committee, of the Hon, Secretary, at the Mail Office, or at any store in Akaroa.
