AKAROA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A meeting of this Council was held on Wednesday evening- Ptescnt—His Worship the Mayor, and Crs Penlington, Scott, Cullen, Bruce, and Rich.
DECLARATION. Messrs Rich an 1 Bruce, the new Councillors, made ihe necessary declaration.

The minutes of the last special and general meetings were road and confirmed.

From the Returning Officer :—
" Akaroa, Sapt. 27,1882. " Gentlemen —I have tho honor to inform you that, on the 6th inst., the day appointed for the nomination of candidates to fill the three seats vacated by tho retiring Councillors, no nominations were made. Notice was then given that nominations would be received up to noon on the 18th inst., when burgesses Charlie A. Rich and William F. Bruce were nominated and declared to bo duly elected. Further public notice was then given for the 27th inst., but no papers were sent in ; one seat i* therefore still vacant. —Yours, etc., " VV. Sims, "Returning Offi :er for Borough of Akaroa." From Mrs De Mabnancho as follows :— " Akaroa, 18th September, 1882. " Gentlemen,—l here give you notice of my intention to erect a fence in front of J my housa in Lavaud street. The fence will oe four feet high, sawn timber and dressed.—Yours, etc.,
" VIOTOIRG It. De Malmanciie." The matter was referred to the Works Committee.
FINANCE,
Roceipts since last meeting—Rent town reserves £6 10s, publican's extension ss, dog tax 10. J., general rate £9 14s 6d. Total —16 19s Gd, Credit bank balance at date £241 4.s Gd.
Accounts to be presented—ll. Burke, maintenance street lamps, 25 per cent, 1 month, £6 7a Gd, Akauoa Mail, advertising, £3 Is Gd, H. 0. Jacobson, stationery, £1 4h, Clerk, t month salary, £6 4s, P. McGuire, two days labor, 14s. Total— £17 lis.

tiik j.n.ns st.ukt biul>g:c Or Cullen said that since last meeting he had, as donuted by the Council, seen the Borough Engineer on the subject of the Jolie street bridge. Mr Wilkin-, had told him that a brbk bridge was impracticable, a3 there was not suffi dent depth. It had therefore been ro-olv.-d to draw out «p jcificatiousin accordance with the second plan th it had come oefore the Council, calling for alternative lenders for ru vbl» or concrete. The expense hid been reduced as much as possible, b v it was determined to have the bridge the full width of the street. The plans had only come in a short time before th ■ silting of ihe <. otincil, so there had Led no meeting of the Works Committee. He begged to move—" That tenders be called for the construction of a new bridge over th_ creek in Jolie streer, at the intersection of Cross street, in accordance with specifications prepared by Mr Wilkins. Tenders to be sent in by next meeting of the Council.'' Seconded by Cr Bruce and carried. FOHMATION OF JOLIE STREET. Cr Cullen then moved—" That tenders bo called for tbe formation of Jolie street from the bridge to Brittan street, including footpaths, according to levels taken by Mr Wilkin, Civil Engineer. Tenders to be sent in by the next meeting of tho Council." Seconded by Cr Scott and carried, ELECTION OF COMMITTERS. The following committees were then elected : —

WEATHER WARNING
Cr Bruce said that once before in that Council he had asked that the Government be written to, requesting them to send weather warnings I rem the observatory at Wellington to the port of Akaroa, as well as to other New Zea'and ports. Such a warning would be very useful here, and would cost the Government nothing at all. He would move—''That the Clerk be instructed to write to ilu Government on the matter."
This was unanimously agreed to, and the Council adjourned.
