BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Wβ regret exceedingly that so little interest is taken in municipal matters, that there were absolutely no nominations on Wednesday for the vacant seats. How our principal storekeepers can stand aloof and let the seats of those who soe that the nffairs of the borough are properly conducted remain vacant, is beyond our comprehension. Surely they desire to see the streets in good order, to see new works undertaken and properly carried out? It is not as if the borough were in a bad financial condition ; on the contrary, there are plenty of funds, if properly administered, to make yearly, great and necessary improvements, and yet a section stand with their hands in the pockets and say, " We don't want to be bothered, get nothing out of it." This want of public r-p ;,, it is most damaging to all of us.
Every one should try to do their best for the general goo 1, whether they reap any direct benefit or not, and let them remember one thing, that by attending to the proper conduct of munici,);.! aff'iirs they must be indirectly adding to their own prosperity, while by neglecting it, they are injuring their own interests. We sincerely hope to see many come forward on the 18th, and declare their willingness to serve their fellow citizens even at the cost of a little personal discomfort
