PRODUCE MARKETS.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limitpd) report, on the Produce Markets for the week ending August 31st as follows:— Wool—The daily telegrams advising the progress of the sales in London continue of a satisfactory tenor. We gather from them that combing merinos are in excellent demand at firm rates, and we shall not be surprised to hear that prices for this description harden as sulos progress. We are led to this conclusion from the reports now being published in Australia in connection with the forthcoming clip. These stale that" owing to effects of drought the wool will be short and tender, and on the whole inferior to last year." .Doubtless this will direct attention to t l .ie linn combing wools of Ne.v Z-mland, and bring them ii.to especial favor. Grass Sied.-—A brisk business has transpired, both in rye grass and cocksfoot, but prices of the former have given way fully 4d to 61 per bushel, owing to the large quantity offering. Superbr machine dressed is worth 5a to 5s 31. Cocksfoot, cm the other hand, is scarce, and commands s£d. A t this figure we have placed five tons. * Potatoes —An improved tone is observable in regard to this tuber. Austnili.in orders have been executed at Gss f .0.b., sacks included, but for a large parcel an advance on this rate would be required. Dairy Produce—The inquiry continues active, but may collapse at almost any moment. At present, however, both butter and cheese are in strong demand, at Is Id and 8d respectively. At these prices we have enquiries. mif
