PARLIAMENTARY

(From our own Correspondent.) Wellington, July 10. There ia nothing new, as far as I can learn, in the state of parties. Probably the Public Works Statement, when delivered to-tnorrow evening, may taiake changes. There are ramors of a vote of want of confidence to be tabled to morrow, but I believe there is no foundation for them. Whatever may be the intentions of the Opposition, they have not been

disclosed. lam again of opinion that a great deal will depend on the manner in which the Government propose to allocate the loan. To-night the Treasurer will propose his resolutions on national insurance. The question is of such enormous magnitude that it is not likely to be pressed to a division. The object of the Treasurer is to ventilate the subject. During the recess the Press of the Colony, and the public, will discuss the proposals, and next session something may be don", or the Bill abandoned. The House will probably be occupied with this question the whole evening. The debate on the Land Bill may be resumed, however. There is, I understand, a growing feeling in the minds of members that the proposal to retain the freehold in the hands of Government, and so create a host of tenants, is unsound in principle, and could not be carried ont in practice, as these tenants would in process of time desire to obtain the freehold, and would so influence elections that no Government could exist.
