Thorn is v. F. Orchard, el'iim £2 10s, was tho only one heard. There being no appearance of defendant, Mr Aylmer gave judgment for full amount and costs. Painting the Church. — Thcvestry have considered tenders for pointing St. Peter's Church. There we<-e two tenders sent in, Robt. Noonan 4:25. nnd Hayward £21 10s. Mr Hay ward's tender being the lowest, was accepted.

Okain's Bay Licensing Distuiw.--The meeting of the Okain's Licensing Committee was to have been held at the Road Bond Office, Okain's, on Tuesday last. There were only Messrs Moore and J. R. Barker pres-nt, nnd the moetinsr therefore lapsed. Tho adjourned meeting is to t-.ke place on Monday, tho 19th inst. The Mails.—We nro glad to be in a position to state that there will not. only bo a daily inwards, but* a daily Outwards mail after this week. The train will run as advertised, nnd the steamer to Pigeon Bay will go on Tuesdays, Thursdays, a d Fridays. We owe the information to the courtesy of the pos'master. The new system commence-*, on tho 13th inst. Akaroa Distiuct School.—A meeting of the Committee was held on Tuesday Inst, tt was resolved that Wednesday beitJKR pnblic holiday, the schoo should be closed on that day. A memorandum was received from the master as to certain requisites, which the Chairman was inRtrueted to procure. Resolved, that tenders be mlled for four cords of firewood, cut in suitable lengths.

The New Mail Services.—The new service via Little River commences to-morrow (Saturday). Mails will close nt the Post Office at. 6.30 a. m. on Mondays. Wednesdays, and Saturdays, and arrive in Christchurch by train from Birdling'a Flat at 2.15 p.m The days of the service via Figo'ui Bay will ho altered to Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, so as to alternate •with the Little River route, and the mails will e'losf- at 7.30 a.m., as hitherto. On Mondays-. Wednesdays, and Saturdays tho coach will leave Wagstnif's Hotel at 725 a.m., and on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 8.30 a.m. Bgrahd LicisNA.no Meeting—The annual meeting of this Committee was held al the County Coun'*il Chamber, Duvau•cheUe's Bay, on Wednesday last. Present—Messrs 11. Piper (chairman). S. "Curry, J. Libeau, and W*. Whitfield. Thomas Brooks applied for a license for tho Somerset Hotel, Head of the Biy. Tlitp was no complaint. The licensee was ordered to have a gate put up on the fem-o under the verandah before next quarterly mr-fitintr, so astogive convenience for the public attending sales on wet days. .Publican's license granted. The meeting then adjourned to the. first Monday in September.

buvAUCUHLi.RS School.—A meeting of this couiniitt'*e Was hold on Monday evening, the 5Ai inst. Present—Messrs Barwick, (chairman,) Pip *r, and Libeau. The minutes of the pravious meeting were read and confirmed, wiih the exception of a minute re sale of the old harmonium which will be considered again next meeting. Correspondence was read from tbe Board of fvlucalion forwarding copy of a form of agreement which they had resolved every teacher nhonld sign for whom a house was provided with the view of it being left in good repair on their leaving it. From the Bank of New .'Zealand re overdraft of Os 7d. The Chairman »tat'*d there was evidently a mistake somewheie for whi> h he could not at present account but he would enquire into tne matter. From the schoolmaster, stating that in -consequence of bad weather the attendance was meagre, and the uijiiney for tho bt oks had not all b en collf-fted, hut that he would hand it over to the chairman as soon as recei-'cd ; and also staling that he should like the Committee lo apooiut a mistress lor the school as soon as possible. It was resolved that the chairman write to tin* Boar I, nsking what steps they had t:-dten towards the appointment of a mistress for the school. A letter was read from the same, drawing the attention of the Committee to nertaiu parties hovering about the school ground ami annoying him whilst at duty. Whilst discussing what to do in the matter, the names of the larrikins came out. Proposed by Mr Piper, ''That the boys in question be written to, cautioning them against again annoying the master, or prowling around tho school ground doing other dainago ; failing to desist, the matter would bo put into the hands of the police." Seconded by Mr Libeau and carried. ■From the same, drawing t\\*> attention of the i-omtiiitteH lo the very irregular attendant* of one resident's family without any reasonable excuse. It was resolved that tbe Chuirm in write for an explanation, and that tho attention of the police be called to Mr Hewer's children. The following tenders were opened for painting th" school house and other repairs, via. R. Noonan J_l.'3 15.s (51. Robt. Cluse •1513 lO', Hay waul £lo 10a Bu, and John Bat-set £14 S J . Proposed by Mr Piper and seconded by Mr Lineau, (Ait Root. Clos-'s tender be accepted. The following account;-* were pas-ed for payment, viz., Airs* Shadbolt -As lid, and flu* master's salary, which was ordered lo be paid on receipt of voucher. The meeting then adjourned till the first Monday in July at 0.30 p.m.

F.'R.mkks' Club.—A meeting of this club will bo hold on Saturday next at Bayley'* Hotel, Akaroa. A largo attendance is requested.
