LITTLE RIVER SCHOOL.
A meeting of the School Commit fee was held at the schoolroom on Wednesday evening, June 5, at 8 o'clock. P-esont — Messrs Coop (Chairman), Pitton, llavis, G. W. Joblin, OlphorL, aod J. Reynolds. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, The Chairman stated that he had recenfy received application from the Licensing Committee fm-the u--e of the schoolroom to hold their mee.i-ng in. This he had granted I Mr Joblin thought that in fhe ilutu-e the small room should be placed at the disposal of the Licensing Bench, as if that •were done the child'en would not be interfered with, as was the case on the late ■occasion.
Messrs Fit ton and Harris approved of the suggestion. ' ' The Chairman then read tbe report of the sub-commiitee appointed to arrange and conduct the entertainment of the 10th May. The report described minutely a'l the proceedings of tbe committee, named all those who were prominent in atto-ding aid, stated the balance resulting af-er defraying expenses lo be -£10 Os 3d, and concluded with expression of congratulation on tbe gratifying success that had resulted.
Mr Jas. Reynolds proposed a vote of thanks to Mr and Mrs Proudloel-. He considered that any success oblaioed by the sub-committee should bo ascribed to that gentleman ; arid M**s Proud'lock had done them much service in kindly placing her piano at their disposal.
Mr Fitton seconded the lesoluiion. expressing bis entire concurrence in Mr Reynolds' remarks, aud (be resolution was carried unanimously.
The Chairman then read tbe roaster*.* report having le'ation to the aUendtince of tho children, which wps i epic-sen led to be most unsatisfactory. The mimes of those distinguished by no-attendfpoo weie recorded in the report, it was segges-ed that the report shou'd be forwaided to the Mail for publication. The Chauwan objected to this being done on i'ic p-osent occasion. He would give them nnothe*chance before lesoriing to a p-oeocdmg so pregnant with humiliation to so many parents and children.
It was finally agreed that the ahl of t'>e policeman should be obtained without further demur,

A list of certain requisites fo<- the rr-*e of the school, desired by the nmsA**, was then examined and considecd, nnd on i.*e motion of Mr Joblin it was reso'ved A*e same should be provided. It was fo ibor resolved : " That the Chairman be en? powered to employ a man io erect (be bell, anange ventilation, cat iketvood, repair swing, etc.;" and Mr F. G r ead wan suggested as a fitting man for ibe wmk.
The Chairman then said tbat Mr Globed: nnd some others had wished him to ta'Ve certain steps in refeience (o giving the schoolchildren, by way of a {-"cat, a A'p by train to Chiistchurch, and io the Exhibition there, but he had dcfe r 'cd doing this till committee met. whe-i .suAl* action could be taken as tbey might de-'eimine on.
After considerable discussion of a conversational character, in which Mes'.t« Olphert, Fitton, and Joblin advocated the proposal, while the Chairman seemed c)k- :- iticlined to favor it, Mr Joblin moved — "That the Chairman beempowc-ed to caM a public meeting, to be he'd in tbe new schoolroom, on the evening of Sal o-day next, tho 10th inst., at seven o'clock to determine what course of aciion ehou'd be taken in Ihe matter."
Messrs Harris and Reyno'ds expressed their concurrence, and the motion was carried unanimously, and tho mee'ing termina'ed.
