AKAROA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A meeting of tbis Council was held on Wednesday night. Present—His Worship the Mayor, and Crs Gutberlet, Brown, ■Cullen, .McGregor, and Brace. MINUTES. The minutes of the prior special, and ordinary meetings were read and confirmed. OUTWARD ■COEREaPONDENCB. The outward correspondence was read •and approved. INWARD COnBESPONDENCE. The following letters were read.— From Mr W. H. Henning as follows -— " Akaroa, June 5, 1882. c Si r) —In reply to your enquiry whether I would be willing to continue the collection of wharfage dues till such time as the Council may make other arrangements, I have tbe honor to siate that I shall be pleased to .do so until fwther advised by tthe Council. In connecion herewith, I beg to suggest whether tbe payment of outstanding dues, instead of being made for the broken period of 11 months, ended 31st ult., might not, under-< he circumstances, bo extended lo 30ih June. T'hb would complete the year, and so make tho •return available for comparison wiih previous returns which have hphc'to bfen rendered on GOlh June of each year.— Yours, etc., •• W.. 11. IIiSNNIN©.'" Cr McGregor* thought the Wharves Committee should have brought up some formal report. His Worship said the telegram had only ibeen received .that day. After discussion it was leso'ved ■: ■' Tbat iin view of the telegram received from tbe Marine Department, that this Council .appoint Mr Henning wharfinger .under the new scale for both wharves until fresh arrangements are made, and that Mr Henning accounts to this Council for the dues received.'" His Worship said, in answer to Cr' Brown, that there was a vacancy on the Wharves Committee, and Cr McGregor I was unanimously elected to the vacant - .seat. WORKS COMMIT TEE. Cr Black was appoinled a member for •the vacant seat on the Works Committee. •FINANCE. Receipts since last meeting—Carrier's license (S..Johnson) £1, sale of old timber •(Wharves account) £2 35.; total, £3 3s. ■Credit balance to data, £81 4s 6d. Accounts to be presented—Presiding officer Local Option poll £2 2s, H. Burke (street lamps one month, 25 per cent.) £3 15s, J. Daly (incidents) ss, Jas. Brown (day labor) £7 1.6s 7d, 11. Bu-ke £4 Ms, P. /,Maguire 13s 9d; total £19 2s sd. | The accounts were passed ior payment CONDITIONAL LICENSES. Cr McGregor said he had no objection, lo the accounts, but saw that amongst the statement of receipts there was no referance to the fee .charged for a conditional license, which be understood had been issued, and for which the Treasurer should ■ bave received the fee before it was granted. He moved : " That this Council i hear that a conditional license has been: granted to Mr Grange, and that the fees ior the same have not beeu paid to the Treasurer of this ■Counoil, and that in this, case and all others, the fee as airanged by tho Licensing 'Committee be paid before (the licenses are granted." -» There was no seconder, and the motion lapsed. WIDENING 0J? BBUOE'S TEEHACE. The Mayor said that he had seen tbe « Rev. W. Barnett .re tho widening of the corner of Bruce's terrace. Cr McGregor moved—"That at its nest meeting the Council make a general rate of ls in the ■£ on the rat cable property in the borough, for the year commencing April Ist,, 1882, and ending March 31st, 1883 ; the rate to bo payable in one sum at the Council Offices, on the 11th July, 1882."
