The police have to-day effected the arrest at Liverpool of 10 men on board the outward-bound steamer Egypt. It is believed the capture has been made in connection of the assassination of Lord Frederick Cavendish and Mr Burke.

George Otto Trevellyan, the newly appointed Irish {Secretary, has been reelected for Howick without opposition.

The cricket match, Australians v. Oxford University, was won today by the Australians by nine wickets.

In the House of Commons last night the matter of alleged understanding between the Government and Air Parnell, in regard to tiie latter's release, was under discussion. Several Conservatives reaffirmed the truth of the statements, which have been current regarding the compact between Mr Parnell and the Government, ami denounced tha covenant ac utterly infamous and degrading. Mr Gladstone, in reply, hotly denied the truth of tiie assertions, and challenged the proof oi the alleged compact.
