The Woodstock Rush in extending, and there seems oveiy probability of a considerable field being opened up.
A CASE of pmall-pox lias occurred in Melbourne, the snitarer being a lady from Adelaide, named Miss Southern. The news spread great consternation, but the was isolated, and no i'uither spread is apprehended.
The trial of To Whiti am! Tohii is to be held in Christchurch on June sth. A change of venue was applied for, on the ground that many of the people of Taranaki had served as volunteers during a period of excitement, and that therefore the ends of justice would be better served by the trials taking place at a distance.
Both British Houses of Parliament met for the despatch of business after the Easter recess. In the House of Commons Mr Gladstone, replying to a question, stated that the liberation of. Cetewayo and his restoration to his former position as of the Zulu triiie, were within the bounds of possibilty if the enquiries which were being made should prove that his reinstatement was desirable and would be beneficial to Ziiluland.
There seems some chance (says the Times) that next fishing season trout will be procurable in Christchurch at prices considerably less than the exceedingly high rates which have hitherto prevailed. As is well known, Lakes Huron, Coleridge, Pearson, Grasiucre, and other of the mountain lakes, are perfectly alive with trout of very largo size. Mr Polhill, of Lake Heron station, purposes making application for permission to net the fish in the lake. If ho obtains this concession, he will erect a packing depot, in which the trout will be packed in ice, to he forwarded to the Christchurch market.
