BANKS PENINSULA FARMERS' CLUB.
A meeting of this Club was held on Saturday at the Somerset Hotel, Head of the B.iy. Mr McDonald the President accUpied the chair.
MINUTES. The minuten were read and conirmed
CORRESPONDENCE. The following letter from Mr Shadbolt was read :—
" Duvauchelle's Bay, March 2.5
" Gentlemen.—l have received notice of your offer from your secretary, and beg to any that I will lease to the club (but not on a purchasing clause) a piece of land for show purposes, only. As I stated in my former letter, in which I left it to the Pastoral Association to make their, own terms, as 1 state 1 then, the Produce show shed is to be taken over at a fair valuation at the end of the lease, if necessary ; and ahould you erect cattle pens and sheep yards, you will be at liberty to remove them and the show shed also should it suit you to do so. Terms—A seven years' lease to have the use of the paddock for two or three days of each year for show purposes, only such days to be any day of the year betsveen the first day of January and first day of August of each year, for the remuneration of ,£"2 por day for e;ich day the piddock h for show pur_
poses ; and shall require that the association erect such fences to prevent the public from climbing and rambling all over my premises, instead of coming through the proper entrance or gateway. I think it necessary that your committee should see the ground, so that I could point out to them what would be necessary. Your Clerk or Secretary will be at liberty to have the approach to his office or show room at any timo in the year. Should this meet with your approval please let me know, or if you have- any other suggestions to make perhaps you will state them—Yours, etc., B. Suadbolt.
The members thought that Mr Shadbolt'a offer could not be entertained. It was eventually resolved '"That the Committee originally appointed to select a site should reopen negotiations with land owners within the limits originally arrange!, and report to a meeting to be hold at Akaroa that day fortnight."
A letter was read from Mr Henning, stating that the U.S.S. Co., would carry all goods from the Christchurch Exhibition free on the return trip.
NEW MEMBERS. Messrs J. Boleyn and R. Thomson were elected members of the Club. NEW COMMITTEEMEN. Messrs J. D. Garwood and J. Boleyn were elected members of Committee. OUTSTANDING ACCOUNTS. It was resolved a <_Ircular should be sent to all those gentlemen who had forgotten to pay their last year's subscription, and the freight to Lyttelton on the cheese sent per Orari. MR CHAPPELL'B REPORT. Mr Chappell reported that about 120 cheeses had been promised for Exhibition.. He asked permission to insure the cheese and other products, and to get cards printed that weie required for the bay. He proposed that after the cheese had been judged a card bearing the maker's name should be placed on each exhibit.
All Mr Chappell's suggestions were adopted.
This concluded the business and the meeting adjourned till Saturday, April 8, at Bayley's Hotel, Akaroa.
