LITTLE RIVER ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting , of this Board was held on March 6. Present— Messrs It, A. Forbes, F. Birdling, and J. Wilson. ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN. It was proposed by Mr Birdling, seconded by Mr Wilson, and carried, that Mr Forbes be appointed Chairman for the ensuing year. The chair was therefore occupied by Mr Forbes. MINUTES AND REPORT. The minutes of the previous meeting being read and confirmed, the Clerk's report was next considered. DEPUTATION. Mr McPhail waited on the Board, asking that about 50 chains of road leading to his place at Island Bay may be widened to 10ft. It was resolved that this matter be postponed for the consideration of a fuller Board. SHINGLE. With regard to the shingle necessary for tho future use of this Board, it wa resolved that the steward of reserves b
applied to for reserve 1362, adjoining the railway line at Lake Ellesinere, as the Board find that henceforward the shingle to be used on the greater part of the main road will bo carried by rail. It was further resolved that the Traffic Manager t>e requested to inform the Board at what price per yard he will be prepared to deliver shingle from 16 miles, or thereabouts, to 8 miles on the Little River and Akaroa line, the Board filling and emptying trucks. , , OKUTR BRIDGE. Resolved that plans and specifications' be invited and tenders called for erecting a bridge over the main creek in Okute Valley, Board finding all timber, etc., on the ground. KAITUNA BRIDGE. With regard to Benn's application for a bridge in Kaituna Valley, it was resolved that the Board is willing to find floor planking and pay cost of erection, provided the inhabitants along said valley find etone for abutment, aa well as bearers on the ground, as well as snake approaches, etc. MAIN nOAD. It was also resolved that Mr Keenan be authorised to break 50yds of metal on Hill road, Little River, as per his last contract, and that specifications be prepared and tenders invited to repair road between the hotel, Tai Tapu, and junction with Halswell district, to be accepted in a fortnight by Clerk and Chairman, as well as to clean water-tables along Gebbie's Pass road, to be lodged at next meeting of Board. TENDERS. It was further resolved that tenders be called to repair and make approaches to cemetery bridge ut Little River. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was received from the Natives at Little River, offering to deliver shingle on the road from the river bend at 2s 6d per yard. Resolved that this tender be accepted as per specification.. From Mr P. Henley, calling attention to an error in the acreage of his property as assessed by this Board during the past 3 years, and demanding a refund of rates paid in excess because of such error. It was resolved that Mr Henley be informed that this error has been corrected, bnt that the Board cannot refund any part of rates paid in consequence of such error, as Mr Henley had an opportunity of objecting to the assessment of his property at the proper time. From the Halswell Road Board, enclosing tracing of alteration of boundary between Akaroa and Selwyn Counties, and asking the concurrence of this Board with the sectional boundary proposed by the Chief Surveyor. Resolved that the Board agree to adopt the suggestion of the Chief Surveyor in the matter.
From Messrs Snow and Anson. requesting that they may be authorised to expend their rates for a time on improving the track leading to Peraki. It was resolved that the Board regret that their application could not be acceded to in the present financial state of the Board, and that the Board lind that that part of the district has had a fair proportion of the general expenditure during the past few years. From the Springs Road Board, intimating that the contract for maintaining clean the. river Halswell during the past year has expired, and requesting to be informed if the Board desire any alterations or additions to the specification for the ensuing year. Resolved that no altera tion, etc., ia considered necessary. From the Under Secretary for Public Works, acknowledging receipt of resolutions passed by this Board at its last meeting re damage done to road through iiiHuflicient waterway in railway line, etc., and promising tho matter would receive furl her consideration.
Correspondence was read between Clerk and the Secretary South Waimakariri Board of Conservators, re the delay in forwarding that body a cheque for rates collected by this Board ; and it is found that said delaj has oucured in forwarding the letter to post per messenger, and entirely outside the knowledge of the collector. ACCOUNTS. After passing some accounts for payment, the Board rose.
