As His Worship the Mayor and Mr Watkins, the engineer nre botl) going, there will be quite a party. Eukata. — By the omission oil the word " pupil " in oti'r report ol : the High School Board meeting, it appears as if £25 4s had to bo paid for three terms at the school. The charges will i>o £10 10s for one pupil ; £18 18s for two pupils ; and £25 4s for three pupils from the same family for the space of one year. Licknsino.— Nominations for the Licensing Committee for the Borough of A'icaroa clone at the Courthouse at noon to-day. Up to last night the following gentlemen, wo understand, >vere nominated, viz., Messrs J. D. Gnrwood, Ceo. Armstrong, W. 11. Ilenniug, W. B. Tosswill, A 11. Westenni, V. MasefiehL 11. Piper, and the Key. li. Stocker. Farmers' Club Mkkting.— The first annual meeting of the Farmers' Club will be held at Brook's Hotel, Head of the Bay, on Saturday afternoon.. The annual report, which we hear deals- in a variety of luerttions important to farmers, will be submitted to the meeting, and also the annual balance sheet, which shows the Club to be in a fair financial position. The election of office nearers for the coming year will al.-o be held, and Mr Federli be preset-1, and it is to be hoped there will be a large muster of members. German Bay Steeplechase.—A meeting of the committee way held at Rodrigues's Hotel last Tuesday evening. A considerable number of the stewards were present, and Mr Lyon occupied the chair. Considerable difference of opinion was expressed in reference to the boundaries of the districts for the close races. It was ultimately decided to make the principal event an open steeplechase of £50, and to have a County and a District steeplechase, a Consolation and Hack Hace. A bub-committee were appointed to bring up a set of rules and regulations for the meeting which was definitely fixed for the Queen's Birthday, 24th May next. The programme appears elsewhere, and altogether the propects of: the gathering being a complete success appears certain. Littlk River. — A LHtln Itiver correspondent writes:—The recent variable weather has much retarded the cutting and saving of the cockfoot seed here, the work which is just at present engrossing the minds and hands of most of the settlers. The yield is inconsiderable, much probably having been lost by th« protracted operations of harvesting. The seed is of necessity somowhit discolored, but I do not hear that that which is saved is otherwise injuriously affected. The probability _of larger returns being secured for dairy produce of a superior character, is exercis-ing-a cheering influence on those engaged in its production, and will incite to gieater efforts in increasing the quantity and improving the quality of both butter and cheese." For the latter there h abundant room, for although without doubt cheese and butter of as fine a quality ay have ever been produced in any coniilry have been produced in this peninsula, yet there is much of either that cannot be thus cip.raaterised. The result is that these prn;!i;ctions can not command the perfect confidence that ensures the highest returns, iitid consequently the producers of the liest articles suffer. Could not some plan be devised by which a Peninsula brand si'ould be placed on that which is superior only '? Your article in the Mail of Friday hint met with n, response in all minds here, and gave entire satisfaction. Mr Blair, the Engineer in Chi'-f for this Island, with Mr Simpson, the Engineer in charge of the Peninsula line, arrived on Monday to inspect the line, atid the proposed deviation at the beach. They stopped at Little River that night and returned to Chiistchiirch on Tuesday.

Tin; Lyons' Toukists. — This clever troupe gave their opening performance at the Oddfellows' Hall on W> itnesiiay evening. The attbtidiiiicc was very good, hut hardly equal to the merits of the entertainment, which deserved a house crowded in every part. It is seldom indeed tii.it a numerous party, like that now here, visit Akaroa, and we should do all we could to encourage them, that more might he induced io come. It is to he hoped, therefore, that the Hall will be crowded tonight and on Saturday. On Wednesday tlie performance commenced with that old favorite,'' Tho Loan of a L>ver, and concluded with the P.-.r.totnime, for which these clever artistes have deservedly gained so much praise. Considering the sma.l stage, the pieces were really wonderfully put on. It is needless for us to particularise hero every item, as it is only furnishing information to an ungrateful public that won't attend. Lot these people dream of -sparkling- music, pretty faces, 'charming figures, broad dmHery, absurd mimicry, quaint pathos, splendid dresses, delicious dancing, and genera! enjoyment, and they will have an Uk-\ of: wha , -. tho entertainment provided is like. I'c speak more seriously, we must compliment Mrs Lyons as tho Vizier- wife, and Muss Tullouh for her arch grace and charming rendition of thy incidental music. Mis-s Fos hlho deserves equal pr.vise for her elite and graceful posturing ; and hint, but not least, Alias Lyons w.is charming :ts the young lady who wa-y thouj, lit to be nyoung geiuiouian. Sir Farron was most-humorous us King Cictu.--, and blaster Pnrlatto was uk usual, restiesß with fun. Master Sam McLean, too. was re-sistlessly droll as

" Li.ii)i 'fin in." Last night the Pantomime was repeated, with ''The Lottery Ticket "' for a preliminary piece. To night the domestic drama of: "The Dair) man's " will k> phty-:!vl, followed by a musical olio and the farce. ''Irish Justice/ and this cupita! bill si >i:U! draw i>, good house. On S'ltuiday Masters Parhitto and McLean will fake a benefit, and we hope the public will show their appreciation of i!vi* ~!i>vcr r'fwir.lo. by a lnYcQ attendance.
