LITTLE AKALOA SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTION.

To the Editor

Sin, —In reading a paragraph written by a correspondent from Little Akuloa, re election of School Committee, in a former issue, I was rather surprised that he should hare wandered so far from the truth. The real facts of the case are this. There are what is termed two classes ; the first and chief is that of Mr J. B. Barker, an old and respected resident, and one who has done a great amount of good to the district, both in his private as well as public capacity; the other party may be commonly termed the publicans'. Here lies the enmity. Now, sir, on the evening in question the publicans' party came to the meeting in an organised b&nd, in order to obstruct by every available means the business, and succeeded in doing so for a time. Being an eye-witness, and also a disinterested party, it has never been my lot to see such a disgraceful meeting, the language used being only fit for uncultivated larrikins. For instance, lie characterised honest swaggers as here to-morrow and nest day charged as vagrants. Now, Mr Editor, being a swagger myself, I deem this an insult, for I consider myself vastly superior to a publican. If he (the publican), wishes to be respected, allow me to suggest to him that he would be more in his place by attending to his business than meddling in affaire of which he has no knowledge, or, if he has any, it must indeed be very limited, and that he should bear in mind the old Latin proverb, Ne sutor ultra crepidam (no cobbler should go beyond his last;. With reference to Mr Barkei and his so-called party, they were there as orderly and peaceable citizens, anxious to carry on the business. Apologising for taking up so much of your valuable space,—l am, etc., A SWAGGER.
