Cmuistchukoh, January 30.

The foundation stone of Joubert & Twopeny's International Exhibition was laid by the Mayer this afternoon, with great eclat. Considerable excitement was caused in town this afternoon by the receipt of the following telegram ;— " Between seven and eight o'clock this morning a four-roomed house helon.iug to Harry himpson, situated near West Eyreton Railway Station, was destroyed, by fire. The house was a two-storey structure. Simpson's wife and six children were upstairs at the time the fire broke out. Tbey all perished in the flames."

The dir ctors of the Union teteam Ship Company are considering the question of reducing passenger fares from all places during the Exhibition.
