LITTLE RIVER RAILWAY.
Tlie fn'lowing correspondence has been iWw.micl to us for publication by Mr Montgomery :— '• Public Works Office, " Wellington, Jan. 12,1882. "Sir—l nin directed by the acting Minis cr for Public Works to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 29th December, relative to the works on the Akaroa Line at Lake Forsyth. The Minister desires me to explain that by the 4 foot of the lake ' he intended to mean the point up to which the formation is now rnnde, which, by means of a temporary •siding to the jetty, will, it is hoped, afford as large an amount of accommodation as the limited means at the disposal of the Government will permit.—Yours, pte, •'John Knowles, " Under Secretary for Public Works." " Christchmch, Jan. 14, 1882. " Sir.—l have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 12th inst.. and have only to add that I regret that any portion of the means at the disposal of the "Government for constructing the line of railway to Little River should be used to snake a temporary siding to the jetfy at Lake Forsytli.—Yours, .etc., '• W.
