Christchurch, November 14.

It is proposed to hold a Volunteer review of the Ceristchurch, Lyttelton, and other Volunteers on December 16th, the Anniversary Day, on Quail Island, Lyttelton.

A correspondent from Wellington telegraph* to-day : —"Sumo of the Volunteers are expected to arrive hero at midnight tomorrow ; the others will leave in a few days. The chief medical officer of Volun teers states that there was an entire absence of arrangements for the sick,, and had sickness been prevalent, or had war ensued most disastrous results had been certain. There was no hospital tent, nor any medicines, except a few bottles. The Government had received no Native news to-day up to 2 p.m.

W W. Charter's case of embezzlment occupied considerable attention at the R.M. Court to-day. Sis cases on that charge were tried, at the conclusion of which the prisoner said, " I shall plead guilty in the higher Court of having taken tho money referred to in the first three charges, but I have not recewed any part of it personally, and I shall disclose the names of those, who in my opinion, and I hope that of the public too are more blameable than myself, and who received the benefit from the fraud. I wish to s&y with regard to the last three charges, I deny them in toto —I have not embezzled the money, Hamilton has had his loan and Restells as well ; I could produce tho proof of innocence i£ I was at liberty." His Worship then committed tho prisoner.
