PIGEON BAY ROAD BOARD.
Tlie monthly meeting of this Board was held in the Board's office on October Ist. Present —Messrs Pettigrew, Budua, Paton, and Pitcaithly. On the motion of Mr Pitcaithly, seconded by Mr Budua, Mα Pettigrew took the chair in the absence of the chairman. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. The Board first had under consideration Mr Holmes's letter relative to the line for road through Holiness Bay offered by Mr Holmes. They agreed to confer still further with Mr Holmes on the occasion of his expected visit to the Bay on the 17th current, regarding two or three doubtful points. The Clerk was diiected to intimate this to Mr Holmes. The Clerk was also instructed to write to
I Mr Wilkins, of Akaroa, to ascertain the term I upon which he 'vonld grade and survey the line ot road offered by Mr Holmes, Mr Pitcaithly was Authorised to accept thrse terms if satisfied with them, ■nd Mr Putmi was appointed to attend Mr Wilk'ns, in the event of his coming, to point out wherMlie Board wished the tcad to In; formed. Tim Clerk was directed to communis Ac with the County Clerk to ascertain whoi her the boundary between Okain's Bay and Pigeon B.iy Road Districts had been adjusted, ns in that case the Boards would have to be dissolved, in accordance with the requirements of clauses 7 and 8 of the Canterbury Roads Ordinance, 1872. Messrs Pettigrew, Budua, and Paton were appointed to sign the rate book. Correspondence was read—From Mr Holmes, making an appointment to meet the Board. From same, stating the conditions on which he made a free grant of land for making a road through Holmes's Bay, referred to alread}'. From owners of s.s. Akaroa enclosing account, which had to be held over for reference to the Chairman on his return home; From Bank of New Zealand, Lyttelton, acknowledging receipt of deposit to the credit of the Board's account. From the surfaceman with monthly report. After passing the accounts of Messrs Wiggins & Co., Pettigrew & Co., D. Pitcaithly, Smith & Kuster, in all £24 2s 6d, the Board adjourned.
