The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. COIIItIiSPONDENCE. Letters were read— From Mr C. J. Hubbard, Little Akaloa, offering £3 as rent for the Little Akaloa jetty for six months, ending March 31, 1881. Fioin Messrs Wiggins and Co., accepting the Board's offer for advertising the stoppage of road in Okain's. From Mr A. Condon, suggesting some small repairs being effected on the road f rom Le Bon's to German Bay. From the County Council, in reply to

an application from the Board, asking for £30 to re-erect a bridge in Le Bon's Bay, informing the 3oard that the Council had allocated £500 among the Road Boards in the County.

With regard to the application of Mr Hubbard, Mr Barker thought it premature. He moved a resolution to that effect, and that the matter should stand over till applications were invited. With regard to Mr Condon's application, Mr Oldridge thought the work required to be seen to, but could not see the funds were to come from to effect the repairs. The Chairman explained that the Board had not been able to do any more to any of the roads then make them just passable for horse traffic. Mr Condon, who was present, maintained that some parts of the road in question were dangerous for a horseIt was agreed that anything absolutely necessary to keep the road open for the Mail should be done; the remainder to stand over for the present. With regard to the letter from the County Council, considerable surprise was expressed that no further letter had been received from that body since its last meetinpr. Members hael seen a report in the Akaroa Mail which would have led them to expect a letier te be forwarded to the Board.

Tenders. The following tenders for the erection of a bridge in Lβ Bon's Bay were opened : —Bailie and Sons, £69 10s ; Fluerty and Co., £69 10s; B. Jorgensen, £61 ; J. Cairns, £65. After considerable conversational discussion, Mr Barker moved that Jorgensen's tender be accep'.ed, conditional on bis waiting for the money till there were available funds due to the Le Bon's Bay sub district.

Mr Oldridge seconded the motion, which wae carried unanimously.

The Chairman reported having accepted a tender of Messrs J. & C. Moore for a culvert in front of Mr Thacker's at 4s 9d per lineal foot. The work had since been executed, and it was reported that a good job had been made of it.

The Chairman's action was approved. ROAD THROUGH LAVERICK'S BAY. Mr Oldridge reported having visited the road through this Bay. There certainly was a complete block, and it was impossible for any one to get through without trespassing on Mr Knight's property. Mr Thacker moved that a space of sixteen chains be felled and burned, a chain wide, and the centre of it cleared. The cost not to exceed £3 10s. The motion was carried. STONEY BAY RIDQE ROAD. Mr Sefton reported that he had finished his contract on the road to Stoney Bay, and wanted the Clerk to go and inspect it. The Clerk promised to visit the work on Wednesday next. laverick's bay.

Some conversation ensued &s to the road out of Le Bon's Bay towards Laverick's. It appeared that Mr J. T. Knight hud undertaken to see this work executed proper' j\ The general opinion sepmed to be that the work had not been properly done. Mr Knight, who was present, wished the member for lliedistrk-1 to inspect the load, and report on it. Mr Oldridge thought this could hardly be done, until the work was reported as finished, and application in .de for payment The matter then dropped, ns nothing had come before the Board officially, calling upon them? to decide whether the work was done. LITTLE OKAIN'S. Mr J. E. Thacker waited on tho Board regarding a contract on the road towards Little Okain's.

The circumstances were as follows:— It appeared that more than twelve months ago Mr William Thacker and Mr Ware had tendered for this work ; the tender of tho former had been accepted, but on his being elected a member of the Board, it was agreed that Mr Ware should take up the work at the some rate. Mr Ware bad failed to commence the work, and Mr J. B. Thacker now applied to the Board for permission to take up the contract which he contended Mr Ware had allowed to

lapse Mr Barker thought they could hardly do that. Mr Ware should be called upon to commence the work forthwith. He moved that Mr Ware be written to, informing him that the work must be put in hand within a week, otherwise the Board would cancel the contract. Mr Bennet seconded the motion which was carried. Mr Thacker then put in a formal offer to the effect, that in the event of Mr Ware failing to proceed with the work, he would do so on the same terms and conditions. This conditional offer was accepted. THE BOARD'S ACCOUNTS. Mr Barker thought something should be done in the matter of Mr Ollivier's letter to the County Council. There were £60 odd lying in the hands of the hands of the county; there was the subsidy from Government due that day. They must really take some steps to bring matters into shape. If they allowed things to drift on in this way they would lose the subsidy altogether. Mr Oldridge moved that the Chairman and Mr Barker be deputed to proceed to Chrislchurch and interview Mr Ollivier on the question, and endeavor ,to have the matter settled definitely. The resolution was carried, it being further agreed that the Clerk should accompany the deputation. FINANCE. The C.erk reported the rates collected since last meeting to amount to £51 6s 9d. Some small accounts were ordered to be paid, and the Board adjourned.
